This special session with Lois Steinberg, a globally respected senior Iyengar Yoga teacher, author, and therapist, was on September 11th via Zoom.
Lois Steinberg brings decades of experience as a dedicated Iyengar Yoga practitioner and teacher. She has studied extensively at the
Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) in Pune, India, where she trained closely with Geeta Iyengar. Over the years, Lois has developed a deep understanding of yoga as both a practice and a therapeutic tool, helping students of all ages and abilities find strength, balance, and healing. Recognized as a senior-level Iyengar Yoga teacher, Lois combines rigorous knowledge of alignment and sequencing with a nuanced understanding of the therapeutic applications of yoga. Her expertise allows her to adapt practice for specific health needs, life stages, and physical challenges, making her teaching invaluable for students seeking a safe and deeply transformative practice. As an author, Lois has made a significant contribution to the Iyengar Yoga literature. Her book, “Geeta S. Iyengar’s Guide to a Woman’s Yoga Practice”, provides guidance for women navigating menstruation, pregnancy, and other stages of life. She is also working on a manuscript about yoga during pregnancy, further highlighting her dedication to applying yoga knowledge for women’s health and wellbeing.
During this session, Lois shared her unique insights as a practitioner, senior teacher, therapist, and author, reflecting on her experiences at RIMYI, her work with Geeta Iyengar, and her journey in bringing the depth of Iyengar Yoga into practice and written form. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, learn directly from her, and deepen their understanding of yoga for women.
