A global reading journey with B.K.S. Iyengar’s classic on the yogic art of breathing
January – May 2026 on Sundays 8am UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)
This year we’re reading Light on Prāṇāyāma together – slowly, closely, with curiosity.
In this new Yoga Readers cycle we will be reading B.K.S. Iyengar’s Light on Prāṇāyāma – his major work on yogic breathing, and a text that has quietly shaped how many teachers and practitioners around the world understand, teach, and practise prāṇāyāma today.
This page gathers everything you need to join the journey:
reading schedule, Zoom meetings, questions, community spaces – and, for those who want to go deeper, the optional Study Pack and session recordings.
To help you orient yourself, I’ve prepared a Yoga Readers Guide.
This explains How the community works, tips for creating your own reading ritual, and an overview of our platforms (website, WhatsApp, Facebook, newsletter).
Note that the access is free but requires sign-up.
How This Cycle Will Work
We’ll walk through Light on Prāṇāyāma together over a series of bi-weekly Zoom gatherings.
Before each session, you’ll receive via our Newsletter, WhatsApp or Facebook group
1. The needed reading for this time
2. Reading summaries.
Between sessions
To help you stay engaged and integrate the teachings, you’ll get:
3. Focus questions to guide your reading
4. Reflection Prompts to connect the reading to your embodied experience
5. A link to the current discussion post in our private Facebook group (feel free to share quotes, insights, and questions while you read)
6. Zoom session links
Each Zoom session will include:
- Short orientation to where we are in the book,
- Thematic exploration of key ideas,
- Time & space for your questions and reflections,
- Break-out discussions in smaller groups.
Note that participation in live sessions is open, this is also my gift to the global yoga community, and does not require payment.
✅ Is Yoga Readers Free for everyone? Yes! You can fully participate in the live Yoga Readers journey without paying anything.
This includes:
- Live bi-weekly Zoom gatherings
- The reading schedule
- Short chapter summaries
- Short session summaries (what we explored in each Zoom session)
- Guiding questions and reflection prompts on the website
- WhatsApp and Facebook groups
- Recordings of the Opening Gathering, Closing Gathering, and a Special Session with Senior Teacher
If you want to read, show up, and think together you have what you need.
If you miss a session or want to revisit it carefully, recordings are available for purchase after each Zoom.
For those who want ongoing access and a structured resource to return to there is an optional paid resource: Light on Prāṇāyāma – Study Pack
The Light on Prāṇāyāma – Study Pack is meant for dedicated students and teachers who want everything in one place.
This makes sense if you join late and want to catch up thoroughly, like to re-watch and take notes at your own pace, and want a compact resource you can revisit over months and years.
The Light on Prāṇāyāma – Study Pack includes:
- All study session recordings (ongoing access)
- All guiding and reflection questions, organized by unit
- Sanskrit terms PDF with transliteration and explanations
- Short bibliography connecting Iyengar’s work with classical texts and contemporary scholarship
Buying recordings or the Study Pack is one way to support the time and research that goes into Yoga Readers – and to receive a resource designed for long-term study.
