Light on Life: Opening Communal Gathering

Live Session: Sunday, 27 September 2026, 8am UTC

This autumn Yoga Readers returns to B.K.S. Iyengar’s *Light on Life* — the book with which this community first began. It is his map of the inward journey: from the physical body, through energy, mind, and wisdom, toward a freedom that has to walk back into ordinary life.

To open the cycle I am inviting you to a special communal gathering on Zoom.

Since the Zoom links are sent via the Yoga Readers Newsletter, WhatsApp group, and Facebook group – make sure you join at least one of them!

This is not yet a chapter study, since we havne’t began the joined reading, but it is a shared arrival. As we will sit with the voice of the book, look at the map we will follow, and decide together how we want to read.

What to expect?

– A brief orientation to *Light on Life* and why we are returning to it now

– The five kośas as a working map for the months ahead — not a diagram to memorise, but a way of seeing a life

– How the cycle is built: seven Sunday gatherings, from 27 September to 13 December, with Chapters 4–5 and 6–7 held as paired units

– What it means to read as practitioners rather than as collectors of ideas

– Space to say who you are, why you are here, and what you hope the inward journey will touch this autumn

Iyengar wrote as a householder who would not leave the world in order to look holy. He also wrote as a boy who was not expected to live. Both facts belong at the start of this book. We will begin there.

Want to go Geeper?

The Light on Life Study Pack is meant for dedicated students and teachers who want everything in one place.

This makes sense if you join late and want to catch up thoroughly, like to re-watch and take notes at your own pace, and want a compact resource you can revisit over months and years.

The Light on Life – Study Pack includes:

* All study session recordings (ongoing access)
* The Study Companion PDF — reading schedule, main themes, summaries, focus questions, reflection prompts, and Sanskrit terms for each gathering.
* Guiding and reflection questions, organised by session
* Sanskrit terms with transliteration and explanations

Buying the Study Pack is one way to support the time and research that go into Yoga Readers — and to receive a resource designed for long-term study.
